Ten Things I Love That Begin With "B"

(Vintage Bollywood Poster from thehotspotonline)

Ten Things I Love That Begin With "B"

Orange Blossom Goddess aka Heather was assigned "L" by Stefanie and Heather assigned me the letter "B".

1.Books: When I look up the letter "B" in the visual dictionary of my mind, the first thing I see is books! For bookish me, "B" has to be synonymous with books!

2.Bombay: Ok, so it now called "Mumbai" but I will always think of it as Bombay. It's the city I grew up in. It nurtured me for the first 24 years of my life and so holds a very special place in my heart, and before I get too mushy, I had best move on to the next "B"!

3.Beaches: I grew up walking distance from a beach (Juhu Beach on the Arabian Sea) and because it was always there, I took it for granted. Little did I know that one day I would have to drive for several hours just to feel the sand between my toes.

4.Boxers: Nnooo, not the underwear, not even the people indulging in the sport of boxing, but the dogs! I love how strong, courageous and noble they seem. Great police dogs!

5.Bollywood!: What can I say, except, that to watch movies out of Bollywood is my favorite waste of time. I love them!!!

6.Birthdays: I love birthdays, there's such a positive energy that surrounds the birthday girl or boy, everyone's smiling, favorite things are being baked or cooked, there are hugs, wishes, cake to eat, candles to blow out, presents...

7.Blue: my favorite color (I love green also) - I love it in all shades - aqua, cornflower, ice blue, robin's egg blue, turquoise....you name it. For other blue lovers, here's a quiz you can take: What Color Blue Are You? I'm Indigo - funky, unique, and independent.

8. Brides: Don't you just love brides? They look so pretty, starry-eyed,happy and resplendent in white. Back home, ofcourse, they wear beautiful red saris. Romance, love and giggles seem to surround them. No matter how much in a hurry I am, I will always stop if I see a bride (it's considered a good omen in some countries).

9. Blueberries: Sweet to eat and all those yummy anti-oxidants are so good for you!

10. Badminton: Rediscovered the game recently ...it keeps me fit and active (well, sorta) and since I play in a group of nearly 12 women, it's a great social activity as well.

Let me know if you would like a letter!

Loved the list. I do think about Mumbai as Bombay too, although I don't think I think of the city as fondly as I used too. Maybe I hav ebeen away for too long, and the sity just seems to be decaying slowly (yep thats gonna get me a lot of flak!).
Yay at blueberries too, I loved in wehn they are in season. We have this local farm a few miles down the road where we get them farm fresh. I can't wait for the season to come again. I do have reservations about buying them when not in season though, they don't taste as good.
*A* plays badminton well too, yep that will keep ya fit.

I would love a letter too, not sure when I will get to it though, but I will. :) Thanks

I love it!All your 'B's are great!!
I have been tagged for this too:)

Hi, Sanjay I suspect you left Bombay a long time ago? I don't know if Bombay is decaying, everywhere you go you hear that the place is "rocking",lol, frankly, I hate the word, but it's become rather synonymous with Bombay! But I know what you mean - the monsoons, the fumes and the fact that the place is so overcrowded does make it a hard city to live in. I will say this however, I don't miss the dust and the grime, I do miss the people, the food and the fast pace that the city moves at!

You can have the letter *A*! :)

hi Asha Wonder what letter you have...will stop by to peek! :)

Hi Lotus,
It's funny that you mention badminton. I was just talking to my husband and daughter about it lasnight, telling them how much I enjoyed playing it when I was in middle school. I haven't played it in years!! I love frozen blueberries...weird, I know. :)

Thanks for stopping by at The Painted Chef. Your blog's awesome.

Hi! I love this meme - have done it with P and G before, so I don't need a letter. I wish I could say I knew enough about Bombay or Bollywood to agree with you - but I'm with you 100% on the other 8! xoxo

ML said...

Lotus, love your answers to this meme. I'm a huge fan of blueberries, also.

Lotus Reads said...

Hi Beenzzz B is also for beenzzz! :) Yeah, badminton is one of those sports that's not too demanding and such great exercise, too! Frozen blueberries, huh? Never tried them , beenzzz, but now you've got me curious!

Thanks Joji

lol, hi Guiness Girl Yeah, this meme has been doing the rounds in the blogworld for a while now. Nice to see you here! :)

Hi ml I love blueberry juice too. We drink a ton of it at home!

:) I left a while back, and I agree with you about the things about B'bay you miss. I don't miss them as much.
The letter was easy to assign eh? ;-)

Hi from Bombay! just passed by and loved your blog..

To me, Bombay is a second home and I love it all.. sometimes i wonder what kind of Jaadoo is spelled on this place that one just can't help fallin in love with it...

Heather said...

I loved all your B answers!! (I gave you B in honour of my Papa who recently passed - his last name began with B - I'm sure he would have especially liked that Books was number one!)

Hey Lotus, My favourite colour is blue too... I am apparently "Ocean Blue" - warm and practical, tend to see both sides to every issue, and people consider you a natural diplomat. I've been told the diplomat bit before so it must be true :-) I would love to add another B - Bread- which I adore and cannot fathom giving up for any of these lo-carb diets. Bread in all its gorgeous forms - loaves, rolls, flattened and toasted! And oh yeah B for butter on my bread please! LOL!

Lotus Reads said...

Sanjay You got an A because you were the first to respond! ;) Just kidding, yeah, it was easy! :)

Neda Hello and welcome! Yes, I do believe Bombay casts a spell on people...though you wonder what all the fuss is about when you read Vikram Chandra and Suketu Mehta's books on the city! I'm so glad you visited....I had a quick look at your blog....fascinating...I will return for a longer visit.

Oh, Heather I am so touched and honored, too. Thank you! From reading all of your posts on your papa I have gained such admiration for him...wish we could have met him.

Madhu! Hello, how was Paris? I don't think we've spoken since your return. Yes, you're quite the diplomat but I don't know if I'm funky or even independent - perhaps I should take the quiz again. And I wish I could have included more "B's" because, like you, I love bread too...those hot, buttery naans, mmmmm, good thing it's lunchtime! :) Hope to speak to you soon, Madhu!

Great meme, Lotus! I, too, love blueberries. When they're in season, I have them every day with my yogurt or Grape Nut cereal. Yummy. I think the last time I played Badminton (which, I always thought was "badmitton") was in my freshman year of high school. Fun game! I think I'd have to add "Babies" to my list. Not toddlers, mind you! Sweet, cuddly babies. :)

gautami tripathy said...

I like this. You can assign me a letter too. But a good one, PK?

Susan in Italy said...

Wow, Badminton. You learn something new every day. I would never have guessed that was a favorite of yours, Lotus. Haven't played it in decades.

Sai said...

Hey Lotus:
Nice post!
By the way we have Bombay in common. It is unfortunately not as hot and happening as people like to believe. Much as I love the pace of the city and its resilence....cannot deal with the traffic situation and crowd.

You probably grew up in the same area as K did.

I used to play Badminton but my mother was a champion in school and college. My "B" for exercising is biking not badminton.

Love blueberries as well and the color blue. My favorite is in pastels and Cobalt blue....fabulous colors.

I don't mind if you assign a letter to me. Just don't know when I will get to it.

Beenzzz said...

Hi Lotus, me again. Your new picture on the bottom of the page is so pretty!

Lotus Reads said...

Hi Les

LOL@ badmitton! Yes, it is a game most of us are exposed to at school and then few of us, if any, pick it up again. I was just lucky that the local rec. centre decided to host a ladies' recreational badminton group twice a week. Awwwww, babies! My daughters were so keen for me to include them, but hey, there were only 10 "B's" I could use! :)

Hi Gautami You can have a "Q", oops sorry, did you have a preference for a "P" or a "K"? *evil grin* Ok, you can have "P" :)

HiSusan Great to see you here. Are you back in Milano? I was checking your blog for updates the other day but didn't find any.

Hi Sai *sigh* Do you think I might be romanticising Bombay a little? I hope not. I will be visiting in December, guess I'll know the truth then! Yes, it is possible that K and I were neighbors! :) As an artist, you must have a whale of a time using all the different blues on your canvas....nice! Oh, I think you'd do well with a "K" :) Take your time.

Hi beenzzz awww, thank you! I keep itching to change my blog colours/layout all the time and since that's not possible, I change the picture instead! ;)

Lisa Johnson said...

Oh I love this list! "B" is a pretty good letter, but you really did it proud! I'd like a letter, but I don't know if I can come up with ten such good ones. I guess it will be a challenge!

By the way, your blog looks great! I notice a little tweaking every time I visit. And I love green!

As Sai mentioned my mother was a champion too in college.
When I started reading your post
the very 1st word came in my mind was BEAUTY :)

Stay Beautiful..!!

Lotus Reads said...

Thanks Anali I do tire of looking at the same blog layout day after day after day! :) Green is also one of my very favorite colors - we definitely have that in common. How about I give you the letter "L"? :)

Hi, Wendy Thank you for the return visit. I thought your blog name, caribou's mom, looked familiar and then I realized we're members of the same online book group! :) I'd like to give you the letter "C". Thank you for playing!

Hi Sugarlips A match would be great, but I'd like some tips from Sai's mom and your mom first! ;) Yes, Beauty is just lovely, wish I had thought of that!

Hi Jacob I would be honored, thanks!

I'm in! Letter me, babe!

Loved your answers, especially beaches, books, and blueberries. MMMM. Spent 5 years of my childhood in Fairbanks, Alaska, and the blueberries there are AWESOME. SO yummy. I love fresh on my cereal, frozen in a smoothie. Mmmm.

Lotus Reads said...

Here ya go, J, the letter "M". just for you! :)

Ooooh, I envy you those Alaskan blueberries, mmmmm!

Lotus Reads said...

Hi Laura! Don't leave for Bombay without me, I'd love to show you around! :)

Anali Yeay, can't wait for your responses!

Melissa lolol, pure coincidence I assure you! :) No, I thought I'd give you something a little more challenging like 'T', hey, but if that's not working out to be a fun exercise, come back and I'll give you another one! :)

hellomelissa said...

okay. t it is. are you forgetting that my most beloved starts with t?

Lotus Reads said...

Oh, no, infact, he is the reason you got that letter, it was going to be "T" or "H" for you, "S" would be too easy! ;)

Booklogged said...

I suspect my RSS feeder isn't working quite right. Every time it highlights your blog idicating there's new content I jump right on over and there' already 33 comments.

So glad you did this meme. I remember, vaguely, someone assigning me the letter J. Better find out who and get it posted. Cereal girl also tagged me for a meme that I haven't done yet. I need to settle down now that the holidays are over.

Blueberries...I always hated them until M and I were in Oregon when they were in season. Oh, wow, they were delicious fresh. My favorite are still fresh blackberries and raspberries, thought.

Loved your answers.

After reading everyone's comments, I want a letter now too! :) (yay, another blog entry for me!)

I feel like this is Scrabble where you have to randomly pick letters and form a word with them! It's mine and T's favourite board game to play when we're bored.

Lotus Reads said...

Hi booklogged The letter "J" is a neat one. Hurry up and do the meme, would love to see your answers! I suppose you will use your "In Season" blog for this, right? I'm having so much fun with the "Classic Challenge", nearly done with book #2, yeay! :)

Hi sasgirl! Wonderful, I am so glad you want to play! I have already given "T" away so I am going to give you an "S" for your favorite cousin! :)

Lotus Reads said...

Shashikiran If I had to pick 11 things that I love starting with me "B" , Bangalore, my adopted Indian city, would definitely have made the pick! :)

Darling Anocturne I have no doubt you are up to the challenge of "Z", go, do it NOW!

gautami tripathy said...

Thanks, for small mercies. I would have come and killed you with my bare hands if you had stuck with "Q".

Chk out my P post on rooted...:D

Hey there...did you read Shantaram?? Bet it would make you homesick for Bombay...I almost felt like I'd been there when the book was over!! Love your list!!

I grew up in a seaside town too, and I didn't realise how much I would miss it when I moved away. There always used to be deckchairs left out on the beach in the summer, and I would head down there, sometimes alone and sometimes with friends, and sit and look at the sky and think. I miss that!

Lotus Reads said...

Hi Gautami lol, now I'm reeeaaaallly glad I didn't stick to my original plan of giving you the letter "Q". Will stop by your blog to read the meme asap. Thanks for playing!

hi Lisa No, I haven't, I have scheduled it for March (it will be easier to read once I'm done with the Classics Challenge). Wow, I can't wait to experience it. I will be stopping by your blog soon to read your thoughts on it. Exciting!

Hi Traveller I am a 10-min drive away from Lake Ontario now (which is so big it could be mistaken for the sea) but in no way can it compare...I miss those beaches!

Is it too late for me to get a letter? :( I'd dearly love to participate in this fascinating meme. It was great to read your responses, and I'm with les on adding babies. I wish I could do that part of my son's life over again because it went to fast, and I took it for granted. Like an idiot. Thanks for sharing this post.

Lotus Reads said...

No, not at all bellezza, I'd be delighted to oblige - the letter "D" is for you!

I know what you mean about wanting to rewind the clock to when they were babies - I guess the only thing we can do is to make sure we enjoy every moment of their time while they're still at home. It's going to be so hard once they leave the nest.

Anonymous said...

Hi Lotus! Thanks very much for you nice uplifting note on my blog! I really liked this post - especially the bit about birthdays and blueberries. I actually bake blueberry-related cakes/muffins/pies for people on their birthdays! Except in Greece I have no blueberries! Maybe I should make a trip to Canada and make you a blueberry pound cake (though the cooking does pretty much ruin the antioxidant effect, alas).
If it's not too late, I would like a letter too. :)
By the way, I just finished Kiran Desai's book. Have you read anything by Marlena de Blasi?

Lotus Reads said...

Hi Joanna!

I have missed you so much! I'm glad you're back in the blogosphere again. My birthday's in the summer, do come on over and make me that blueberry pound cake, it will be the best birthday gift ever! :)

I would like to give you the letter "J". Thanks for playing!

I hope you will write down your thoughts on the Desai book. And yes, Marlena de Blasi sounds familiar - doesn't she write those books set in Venice?

Don't disappear on us again, ok?

*hugs*
