My book haul
I didn't get as many books this time as I got at last year's Library Sale. I think a lack of time has forced me to be more discerning about the books I buy (and read). I was very happy to have found Yasmina Khadra's "The Attack" for my personal collection ( I have already read and reviewed the book here) and I was equally happy to have found not one, but two, books by Jamaica Kincaid.
Now for some other news, Random House wants me to review some books for them, ofcourse, I didn't need to be asked twice! :) Two of the books are here already: Salman Rushdie's "Shalimar The Clown" and Marcello di Cintio's "Poets and Pahlevans", the two on their way are, Doreen Baingana's "Tropical Fish" and Dragan Todorovich's "The Book of Revenge".
Tomorrow I will post a list of reading challenges I have joined so stay tuned, also, for those of you reading "The Inheritance of Loss" with me or with the "Stacks Reading Challenge" (Melissa, HollyDolly and Hindu Mommy), I am pleased to say I've made a good start - I'm on page 70 and enjoying the book so far :)

Lotus,I'm curious about the Salman Rushdie book. It looks like an excellent read. You have such wonderful books! I need to start reading again!!!!
Looks like you got some good ones! I see The Good Earth, which I loved. I'm intersted in Sylvia and Ted. I'm fascinated with Sylvia Plath, so I'll be anxious to hear your thoughts. I've skipped our library sale for the past few years since I still have dozens and dozens that I bought and haven't read yet from previous sales.
see? the lotusreads book club has already started. i'm not quite to "inheritance" yet... i'm on page 600 something on my 800 pager (no thanks to booklogged, she recommended it!) :)
What an enviable assortment of books, Lotus! The Random House review opportunity sounds fantastic, too. Of course, they couldn't have found a better person for the job. Keep us posted. :)
You did well! I'm jealous!!
Lotus, what wonderful news! I am so excited for you. Just think, Random House!!!
Just bought a copy of Inheritance of Loss. I think I will add it to the Challenge and drop one of the other books.
Oh, I am so happy for you my dear. I wish you good luck in all the reviews you send in. I know that they will love them. Next, you must write a book. :-)
love-bd
Thanks beenzzz You do read a lot for your work on the Asian diaspora. I know a lot of that is more academic in nature, but I guess it doesn't leave you with too much time for reading for pleasure, does it?
Hi, Les
It's largely due to you that I was inspired to buy 'The Good Earth', so thank you! :) Yes, Sylvia Plath has always fascinated me and after watching the biopic with Gwenyth Paltrow, I have become even more curious about her - hope these books will help satisfy that curiosity some.
Allo' Melissa!
Hope you sail through the next 200 pages of your chunkster, and even if you don't, we'll wait for you for the discussion, have no fear! ;)
Awww, Bhaswati , thank you! Can't wait to read and review your book. What a thrill that will be for me!
Hey gg Have missed you, thanks for stopping by!
Awww Beloved You are too kind, thank you so much for your words, you have no idea how much they have cheered me.
I've been stopping by - just lazy about commenting! I'm fascinated by the book about North Korea you posted - am going to have to check it out, although I'm doing my own personal "stacks challenge" right now and have cut myself off of buying books. :) I still love your site as much as always!
Lotus, the Plath biopic with Paltrow just arrived in the mail from Netflix. I've seen it once and now, having read The Bell Jar, want to watch it again. It may be one to own.
I forgot to congratulate you on the Random House opportunity. How cool is that?!!!
Congrats Lotus! A reviewer for Random House. Good for you!
Lotus: Congratulations on the opportunity to review for the Random House
Is that a JMS Mani on your wall?!
gg I'm going to have to come and take a look at your "stacks challenge" - sounds like fun!
Thanks Les Yes, that movie was really something wasn't it? It tugged at the heartstrings and I couldn't get Sylvia Plath out of my mind for weeks after watching it. I haven't read the "Bell Jar" but I remember you reviewed it; I will pop by to read your review again.
Susan & Hindu Mommy Thanks so much, guess I just got lucky! :)
Anon Wow, yes, it is a Mani! :))) His style is quite distinctive, isn't it? When did you first become acquainted with Mani's art?
What a great selection of books!
my sister owns an art gallery and i own one of her more recent jms mani pieces...love it!
Thanks Kate and yes, I'm pretty excited about them! :)
